Gettysburg DFA Sustainability Task Force
This local task force meets monthly to discuss ways to move the Borough of Gettysburg and Adams County as a whole towards buildling a more sustainable future. In October 2009, the group organized a mass community rally for the International Day of Climate Action on October 24, 2009. Over 300 people from Adams County came out to participate in the event! The group has now begun working on an "Energy Raising" project to promote the installation of Solar Hot Water Systems on residential homes in the local community. Developed by PAREI in Plymouth Valley, NH, the "Energy Raising" model is based on the old tradition of barn raising where neighbors come together for a day to build a renewable energy system on a home while raising awareness, educating the community, and helping to defray the costs of installation for the homeowner.
Meetings are held every third Wednesday at 6:30PM in the Eisenhower Room at the Gettysburg Public Library. For more information, contact Peter Boving or Lou Hammann.

Adams County Gleaning Network
The Adams County Gleaning Network is part of a national campaign that organizes volunteers to go to local farms and collect produce leftover after the harvest. This food is then delievered to area soup kitchens and food pantries to provide fresh and nutritious food to local residents who actually need it. Many local organizations benefit directly from the Gleaning Network, including our own Campus Kitchens. For more information or to sign up to volunteer for the next gleaning trip, contact Jerry Althoff
